If you are planning for a camping trip, experiencing a power outage, or may one day find yourself relying on your emergency preparedness – you’ll want lights! Most likely a few different light sources. Here are some of our favorites that we use in our own homes and on adventures! As with all of our recommendations, they are just that – recommendations. This list is not an all-inclusive list, but we hope it will be a great starting point for you as you look for the light sources you want in your home.

Our Favorite Light Sources

- These LED headlamps come in a pack of 6. Yesss! That might be enough to cover your entire family! You could even stick one in each vehicle and in your go-bags. Lots of options with them. We love headlamps because they leave your hands free and available.
- Another favorite are these 2 pack rechargeable headlamps. These are lightweight and waterproof – which is great for outdoor use if it’s raining or snowing.
- Tactical flashlight. This is another one that comes in a 2 pack. Tactical flashlights can light up a larger space or focus in on objects up to 1,000 ft away. They are small and can easily be stored in glove compartments, drawers, backpacks. A great light for 96-hour kits too.
- We first purchased this flashlight back in 2015 and have purchased 2 more since then. It’s a good one! It has a few different color options, is waterproof and floats, and has a carabeener – convenient for when you aren’t holding it but still need it close by.
- We have used these LED lanterns multiple times during power outages. They are quite convenient and handy! Easy to carry, can sit on a counter top, and then collapse down when not using them. They come in a 4 pack
- Solar lantern. We were sooo excited to buy and try this one! For only $30, we weren’t too worried if it was a complete flop. We love it! Charging headlamps or changing batteries ins’t always an option – hello, solar! If the sun is out and the product is quality, you will get a charge and have light when night falls. This might be one of those products we buy a few more of.
- Propane lantern. Isn’t there something a little nostalgic about a propane lantern? Just us? Well…they are a great light source! Don’t forget your propane and these tie style mantels.
- Are you good at checking your flashlights and making sure you have batteries? What about charging anything solar? Not the best? A hand crank flashlight might be a good idea for you to have! It might not have as bright of a light, and you will have to wind it up for a few minutes, but it will provide light! We each have one as a backup but always go for our other flashlights first.
- These light bulbs are one of our must-haves! If it’s storming outside, you turn on a lamp with one of these bulbs in it. If the power goes out, the lamp with one of these bulbs in it will stay on! AMAZING! If you don’t have the bulb on when the power goes out, it can still be used. It comes with a hook that you will attach to the bulb that will make it turn on. They are super cool! Note: the bulbs are a little bigger, so read the details on these bulbs before purchasing to make sure they are a good fit for you.
